Affirmation Boy

I love seeing the different personalities growing in our boys, and I was challenged by this blog post  to actively watch my boys to see what makes them light up.  One thing that I have consistently seen in Koi is his love for affirming people.

This mostly happens in our house because while his overflow of affirmation is like his mama, he is selective when it comes to where, when, and who like his dada.  B had to take the strengths finders test and one of his results said he doesn't give praise unless it's really deserved.

*light bulb moment for this lady who can eat affirmation for breakfast lunch and dinner and still need a midnight snack... we had a good laugh*

It's not uncommon for me to hear the creak of our stairs as a boy and his dada make their way down in the morning followed by a sweet little voice..... "Thank you, Mama, for making brea-fess.  Oh, you making coffee, Dada?  Thank you, Dada, making coffee."

We've been doing a lot of painting in our house and Koi doesn't miss a beat.... "Dada painted the ceiling.  Oh, Dada, it's looking nice.  Mom, you painting the stairs?  I like the brown color.  These steps looks good, Mama!"

Last night we had our Gospel Community over and, apparently, Koi saw his friend take a cookie and began talking all about it, but never asked for one.  "Ezza, that looks like a nice cookie!  It looks round and warm and good."  Oh how I wish I was in the room to hear that exchange.

Sometimes he will say something followed with, "is that a good idea?" and is quick to give an, "oh thanks!" if you help him with something.

While he will occasionally want to sit in our laps, and has recently been telling me he just needs to snuggle or go in the Ergo for a little bit, he lights up if we do puzzles with him, read stacks of books, or drive a train around the track over and over and over.

Words of affirmation and quality time seem to get right to this little boy's heart.  And watching the way this boy's dada grows and stretches to speak his love language gets right to mine.
